The ability to know is oxygen to a ministry. Leaders often wonder, “How are my people doing? How effective is my ministry? How am I doing as a leader?” At Gloo, we’ve worked with Barna Group in serving thousands of leaders who leverage technology as a way to learn and to know. We’ve learned that one of the best ways to gain knowledge is to leverage common frameworks—a mutually accepted way of viewing and communicating about something.
This is why Gloo has partnered with Barna and others to launch State of the Church. State of the Church 2025 is a year-long initiative to help leaders in ministry
understand current Church trends and utilize common measurements to see the flourishing of their own people and the thriving of their organization.
Measuring the 7 Dimensions of Human Flourishing and the 15 Dimensions of Church Thriving will allow you to see the health of your people and your church beyond simple attendance and giving statistics. As the big C Church unites around these common measurements, leaders will be able to see research trends and measure the state of their own churches, and network leaders will be able to provide resources and next steps for churches in their network.
The key way to participate in this initiative is to launch the ChurchPulse Assessment at your church and to view the results in your Church Health Dashboard.
Flourishing and Thriving
The traditional metrics for measuring church health (attendance, budgets, engagement, etc.) lack the ability to capture the true well-being of congregations and churches. The ChurchPulse Assessment utilizes a common measurement framework in these areas:
People Flourishing: Based on work from the Harvard Center for Human Flourishing and in collaboration with Barna and Gloo, human flourishing looks at seven dimensions of whole-person health. Flourishing people attend, stay, give, engage, grow, and multiply, ultimately leading to a thriving church body.
Spiritual
Relationships
Purpose
Health - Mental and Physical
Finances
Contentment
Character
Church Thriving: Based on decades of research from Barna Group, the 15 dimensions of church thriving help leaders look beyond common lag measures to understand deeper drivers of church health.
Nurturing: Connected Community, Worship Experience, Spiritual Formation, Prayer Culture, Bible Centeredness, Trusted Leaders
Sending: Faith Sharing, Serving Others, Holistic Stewardship, Leadership Development, Social Impact
Leading: Future Focused, Data Informed, Resource Stability, Team Health
When churches thrive, the people in your church flourish, and as you take next steps to grow your people and your church, those traditional metrics of attendance and budgets all grow with it!
Understanding the Results
If you have deployed a ChurchPulse Assessment and people have filled it out, then by default your screen will show your Church's results in purple, compared to national averages in green.
You can click the dropdown menus next to My Church or National Average to adjust the comparisons. In each space, you can choose whether you'd like to see data from your church, any Circle that your Gloo organization is part of, or the national average. Or, if you'd just like to see one set of data with no comparison, just click the x to delete the comparison- you can always add it back in later.
You can also change the timeframe you are looking at, as well as set filters for your data based on age and gender, in order to get more granular with your results.
