You can add a list of options and take different actions like sending messages, adding contacts to groups, and notifying team members, all based on which option your contacts select. Craft your question, set up the options with steps to take, and let Gloo do its magic!

In this article, we'll walk through an example of using a Menu to ask people which church activity they are interested in hearing more about.

Note: The Menu feature is only available with a Gloo+ Subscription.

Creating a Menu in a Workflow 📝

  1. To create a Workflow that uses a menu, navigate to Messaging -> Outbox -> Workflows.

  2. Click Create from scratch.

  3. Enter in the keyword that will trigger this Workflow. Anyone who texts in the keyword will be enrolled. Then click the Plus Icon underneath to add your Menu.

  4. Click Send Menu.

  5. Enter your message in the Question box. This is where you prompt people to select options. For this example, we will ask people which church activity they want to hear more about.

Pro tip: Use the tools underneath to make your message more personal by adding images (5mb size limit), emojis, videos (500 mb size limit), and first name, last name or full name of the message recipient.

  6. Now, we need to set up the options of what activities people can learn more about. Let's set our first option to be "Bible Study." Once you've named it, click the plus icon to add a step to run when someone selects this option.

  7. Let's set our first action to be to send this person a text.

  8. Type out the message with information on Bible study. Now anyone who selects the Bible study option will have the information sent to them! You can complete this option, or click the + icon to add more steps, like further text messages, or having the system add this person into a group for easy communication later.

  9. Complete these same steps to add any options you'd like- you can add up to 8 options to a Menu. Once you're finished, you can view the preview to make sure everything looks correct.

  10. Then click Create Menu.

  11. Now all that's left to do is to publicize your keyword! Make an announcement at church "Text INTERESTS to our phone number to get information on all of the different activities we offer!" Anyone who texts in the keyword will be sent the list of options to select from.

A few notes:

  • The sentence "Please respond with a number from one of the options above" will be added to every Menu.

  • Users can text back a number, the name of the option, or both in order to trigger the Menu, but not both. For example, responding to this Menu with "1," "Bible Study," or "1. Bible Study" will all trigger the Bible Study option.

  • If a user wants to choose more than one option, they must trigger the Menu multiple times. For example, someone can text in "Interests" and then "1" to get information on Bible study. But if they also want information on the Prayer Team, they'll have to text in "Interests" again before texting in "2."

  • The keywords used to trigger the Menu, as well as the options, are not case sensitive. However, they must be texted in exactly and alone (according to the guidelines above) in order to work. For example, if a user texts in "Interests" to begin the Menu, but then texts back "I would like to hear more about Bible study," this will NOT work to trigger the Bible study option.
