Automations: User Onboarding Settings Guide

Update your new user Onboarding under "Settings." Gloo automatically onboards a new user, no matter what they text in for the first time.

Updated over 2 months ago

No matter what someone’s first text to your phone number says, Gloo responds to their text, asks for their name, and creates a profile for them in your account if the system doesn't already recognize their number.

Under your Messaging menu, navigate to Automations -> Onboarding to manage the user onboarding experience. You'll never have to worry about someone falling through the cracks no matter what they text in the first time!

Note: If you have set the default language of your account to Spanish, these default onboarding responses will be sent in Spanish, not in English.

Note: Since Explorers submit their name through an online form, they will not go through this onboarding process.

Onboarding path 1:

If someone texts in a prayer request, or question into your phone number as their FIRST text in, Gloo will automatically put someone into the onboarding path 1 response.

  1. Under your Messaging menu, navigate to Outbox -> Automations -> Onboarding.

  2. You can edit the bolded part of the message, and Gloo will automatically finish the message with: "What's your full name?"

Please note: Due to the recent migration of Keywords to Workflows, Onboarding path 1 can not currently be triggered.

Onboarding path 2:

If someone texts in something that is not a keyword, prayer request, or question you have an automation for, Gloo will automatically put someone into the onboarding path 2 response.

Onboarding path 2 is helpful as a generic catch all response.

  1. Under your Messaging menu, navigate to Outbox -> Automations -> Onboarding.

  2. Scroll down to onboarding path 2. Edit the bolded part of the message, and Gloo will automatically finish the message with: "What's your full name?"

Choose whether to collect Email Addresses in Onboarding

You can choose if you'd like to collect email addresses as part of new user onboarding. This means after someone texts back their name, Gloo will send back the Onboarding Complete message amended with: "One last thing, what's your email address?"

If you would like to collect email addresses from new users after they've texted in their name, turn on the email collection setting by clicking the Email Collection tab and toggling the button on. Customize the message a person gets after asking for their email and click Save.

Note: If you've edited the "Onboarding Complete" message under Customizations, this change will not be reflected in this Onboarding tab view. To make sure you like the new onboarding flow, try it out in the Texting Simulator!

Note: These onboarding paths are not triggered the first time an Explorer messages your number. These automated flows are only designed for users who are primarily interacting with Gloo's messaging features (like Quick Responses, Broadcasts, etc), and not for individual text conversations with Explorers.
